The Course
This one-year Diploma course follows on from the Foundation Course. It can be a further stand-alone course or it can be considered as Year 1 of the 4 year Group Analytic Qualifying Course, should successful students wish to apply for further training with the IGA. In London, the Diploma students meet weekly on Thursdays over an academic year for teaching and seminars.
The Diploma can lead towards the status of Groupwork Practitioner (GWP) and Associate Membership of the Institute of Group Analysis (IGA). However, if you wish, you can opt-out of the requirements for the GWP qualification and still be successful in achieving the Diploma. In London you can even apply for the QC without GWP status, although students on the QC without this additional qualification will have to undertake an additional group under IGA supervision.
It is a course requirement that Diploma students either join a weekly therapy group (can be in person or online) or the course experiential group, which takes place at Daleham Gardens on a Thursday after the formal teaching component.
Please note that if you are intending to apply directly to the qualifying course post the diploma you need to be in a twice weekly therapy group from the October preceding applying for the qualifying course in January.
The Training Community population
The social unconscious permeates all levels of the group analytic training. We are striving to reach out to under-represented populations. Our aim is to enable the training community in London to reflect the diverse nature of the community we live in.
These are some of the ways we aim to increase diversity in our London Courses:
· Outreach projects to voluntary sector organisations
· Scholarships and bursaries for people from BAME communities and other marginalised groups underrepresented in our training community ( see below for Application Form)
· Annual audit and review of the curriculum to ensure the inclusion of current social issues
· Training and support in working with diversity for all course staff
Scholarships and Funding Application Support
The IGA has several bursaries and scholarships available each year for self-funding applicants. For more information please visit our bursary scheme page, where an application form can also be downloaded.
